In this day, with rising health insurance costs and an eagerness for natural remedies to counteract a wide variety of adult-onset illnesses, guided imagery, NLP and hypnosis are popular techniques in the field of pain relief. Learning to use one's natural resources for the purpose of relaxation in the hopes of offsetting aggressive stress-related disease is a meaningful and well-considered alternative to expensive drugs and medication in the fight against heart disease, mental illness and other breakdowns of the human body.
Weight Control
Losing weight is a mainstay of good health care and is an important component in a lifetime of health maintenance. However, it is never an easy thing to do and those entering into a serious weight loss program need support and resources to help them reach their goals. Guided imagery, hypnosis and NLP put both the conscious and subconscious mind in the ring and offer the client an opportunity to create new pathways in the brain that will alter bad habits and lead the client into a fully integrated lifestyle with positive changes. It is not just about food and the body's need for food--the human body runs efficiently on the right amount of nutrients but often the mind and its particular demands steer a client off-course.
Emotional eating is caused by stress and can be the main reason a person puts on weight to begin with--the brain loses its ability to censor unnecessary impulses and harbors a deep-seeded need to fulfill what it thinks is a desire for food. However, with the stress release caused by the concentrated efforts of "GI" ,NLP or Hypnosis, a patient can learn to discern between true hunger and imagined hunger and curb those subconscious tendencies so that a balance can be created between what the body wants and what it needs. Mind control, as sci-fi as that sounds, is a positive and reachable goal in the fight for life-saving weight control.
Stress is one of the leading causes of health concerns in the United States. How Relaxation Exercises Can Help
There are many benefits to being able to induce the "relaxation response" in your own body. Some benefits include a reduction of generalized anxiety, prevention of cumulative stress, increased energy, improved concentration, reduction of some physical problems, and increased self-confidence (Bourne, 2000). Relaxation exercises can be a powerful weapon against stress. The following are some important facts about stress:
•43% of adults experienced adverse health effects from stress
•75-90% of visits to a physician's office are for stress-related conditions and complaints
•Stress has been linked to the 6 leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide
•The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has declared stress a hazard of the workplace
•In the workplace, stress may be related to lost hours due to absenteeism, reduced productivity, and worker's compensation benefits. This costs the American industry more than $300 billion annually.

Pain Management with NLP, Hypnosis or Guided Imagery
One of the greatest achievements in the mastery of transcendental meditation, the ages-old Indian practice of measured breathing and mind focus, is the ability to lower one's pulse to the slowest possible pace. Yogis are practitioners who have gotten to the highest point of mastery and are able to guide their students through longer and longer periods of quiet, calm reflection. A University of Kentucky College of Medicine/Maharishi University of Management joint study has shown that significant changes can be made in a patient's blood pressure thanks to these meditative practices. A 15% decrease in blood pressure is the most common effect of these practices.
Guided imagery offers the same benefits. Medical patients may extend their pain threshold during difficult illnesses, such as cancer or cardiac surgery, with guided imagery. The process uses gentle-voiced narration to calm the patient into focusing on specific words and phrases leading them into the semi-conscious sleep state. According to Donald Miskiaman of the University of Alberta, an insomniac averaging 75.6 minutes of time awake before REM sleep could, after one month of guided imagery therapy, make the same relaxed fall in 15.1 minutes.
Quit Smoking with Ndependence Guided Imagery “GI”, NLP or Hypnosis
Although the world's major tobacco manufacturers have undergone severe changes in the light of medical studies showing that they manipulated their product to increase the chances of users becoming addicted to them, cigarettes are still sold, still bought, still used, still a bad habit for millions of men and women around the world. Because of the body's natural response to the addictive nature of nicotine, stopping smoking is a long and difficult process. The medical establishment has been working for years on fool-proof measures to help cut a smoker's need for this drug (and the harmful additives that are often manufactured with it) Studies show that procedures like smoking cessation can be aided by guided imagery. Similar to hypnosis, guided imagery gives the client a sense of complete relaxation, from which the subconscious may release its grip on habit-forming activities hurtful to the patient. In the state of relaxation, the unconscious mind is able to accept new ideas and, as the client is brought out of their sleep state, those ideas are now part of the fabric of their waking life.
All of these methods are positive ways to achieve important health goals. The idea of refocusing one's mental energies to change unhealthy habits is a burgeoning area in the medical world. Stress is a fact of modern life and therapists and doctors are forward-thinking in going deep to make a difference in a client's comfort and lifestyle.
Hypnosis, Guided Imagery and NLP: A Great Team
Hypnosis, Guided Imagery and NLP are all techniques that are used to help many problems people have such as phobias, bad habits, mental blocks, stress and much more. There are even ways Hypnosis, Guided Imagery and NLP can help outside of what a person would expect. Such things are personal development, your golf game or even help your memory.
When you hear about Hypnosis or NLP you might think that it is just a sham and that there is no real way that something like that could help anyone. Or, maybe when you hear those words you just do not understand what it is. What you will come to know, after looking into what they are, how they work and how they can benefit a person, is that techniques such as Hypnosis, Guided Imagery and NLP are not only independently helpful but a great team to work with as well.
NLP, technically referred to as Neuro Linguistic Programming, is a way to communicate to your unconscious. If you think of it as a language, those who live in America and speak English will not know what someone is talking about if they speak German. By the same token, if you do not speak to the mind in ways it can understand, which would be directly through the subconscious, you will not be able to accomplish many things. In essence, NLP can be described as a re-programming.
Hypnosis is often misunderstood and some points should be clarified. Under hypnosis you are not out of control and you will not say anything that goes against your core beliefs, morale or any standards you have. Hypnosis is when your body and mind is completely relaxed and very receptive and open to suggestions.
The unconscious mind is a very powerful tool and is often utilized to change bad habits such as smoking, lose weight, deal with trauma and more. Some things the unconscious mind does is run the body, following the instructions given by the conscious mind, it reasons, is the determiner in if you feel pain or do not feel pain, interprets language and much more.
Guided Imagery is used to transform your subconscious and conscious mind. It is a link that is used to provide a cohesive thought between the person and their thoughts. It helps process information in a different way by utilizing the senses of the body including taste, sight, smell, touch, etc.
As you can see, Hypnosis, Guided Imagery and NLP are not only just a great team but often act as building blocks for each other. For example, if a client undergoes hypnosis, they will be relaxed and open to thoughts and suggestions made by a therapist. The goal of the therapist is to instill good thoughts as well as better coping techniques for the individual depending on the matter at hand and what the desired outcome is. After the hypnotist has the person free from conscious thought, they can then speak to the patient about guided imagery techniques such as allowing your subconscious mind to see stress as a ball of light. It then becomes something that can be physically seen and also not as “threatening”. In fact, a person could actually end up throwing the ball away and rid themselves of the stress altogether. The main focus is to bring thoughts into manageable terms and then deal with them.
Over all, Hypnosis, Guided Imagery and NLP works wonders and many of the things that bring us down throughout our day or in our lives. If a person has picked up a bad habit such as smoking, they can re-program themselves to not have that need or want to smoke. The same can be true for those that have a phobia and much more.
